Spring Has Not Sprung!

Spring Has Not Sprung!

I need to extend an apology to my readers. An apology because I tend to be an eternal optimist – a trait I’m seriously second guessing these days. In many recent posts I’ve been eluding to the arrival of spring. A season that does not seem to want to grace us with its presence this year. I think this winter has humbled many of us to our very core. Am I right? While we wait in anxious anticipation for weather that permits spending our free time outdoors we might as well establish good working order inside our cozy homes. Purging and organizing now will ensure that we’re not missing out on a moment of our much deserved exterior activities. Below are 10 questions to ask yourself when you begin the organizing, simplifying and decluttering task.

1.       Is this item something I regularly use?

2.       If not, is it something I love?

3.       Am I keeping this out of obligation or expectation?

4.       Am I holding onto this because I think I should love it?

5.       Am I saving this “just in case”?

6.       Do I have multiples of the same thing?

7.       Could something else I own do the same job?

8.       Am I holding onto a broken item to fix one day?

9.       Is this item worth the time I spend cleaning/storing it?

10.    Could I use this space for something else?

Some of us feel overwhelmed with the thought of purging. I encourage you to take a deep breath, pick one area or room and start there. Breaking it down is easier to digest and it feels great when the task is completed. Doing it one room at a time ensures you won’t have ongoing chaos in every area of your home all at once. Think about eliminating these items while working your magic: old magazines, unread books, outgrown clothes, expired food (check your pantry & your fridge – you’d be surprised!), mismatched socks, duplicate kitchen items, expired cleaning supplies, worn towels, worn sheets, old toys, unused toiletries, old mail/bills and old emails. Hope this was a bit helpful. At the very least it will keep us occupied until spring does finally arrive…
