Vous et nul autre
On this date 20 years ago, I was giddily and anxiously preparing for the following day – our wedding day. A handful of us were designated to set up what little décor we had decided upon. With the Tucker Amphitheatre at the Citadel Theatre as our backdrop, little else was really necessary. We would exchange our vows in front of the quaint reflecting pond while surrounded by a lush tropical atrium, winding paths and most importantly, all of our loved ones. Once the clock struck midnight and March 13th officially rolled around time literally seemed to fly by! It’s funny how we spend insane amounts of time and funds on our special day, hey? Well, the majority of us do anyway…in our case we had 6 months to plan and I believe I was given the strict budget of three thousand dollars. Yes, you read that right. 6 months and 3K to make our dream a reality. To say I had to get creative and maybe call in a few favours was a bit of an understatement. Regardless, the whole day turned out amazing. I fondly recall us girls piling into the Excalibur limo for the short trek from the Hotel Mac, the sweet sound of the bagpipes, having to tell my father to hold himself together and above all else locking eyes with my future husband. Now I’m not exactly sure how or where the last twenty years have gone but I do know that it has been a colossal adventure. One that I cherish every. single. day. At times it may have gotten muddy and might have included some hairpin turns but I am SO proud of the road we are on. Proud of the people we have become, all that we have overcome and most importantly the fact that we did it all (& are doing it all) together. If you happened to be in the downtown Edmonton area on this date you could have encountered a pair of grinning goofballs hanging out of the sunroof of a limo enthusiastically yelling “We’re married…We’re married”. That pretty much sums up how we roll.
