Following up on an article I wrote a few months ago on Hygge, I thought it important to revisit the art of the art of building sanctuary. Create well-being and warmth. Especially since its February…in northern Alberta and the majority of us peeps are getting a little bit stir crazy. No matter the time of year, a home should always feel cozy. As we transition into (dare I say it??) spring mode, here are a few simple ways to help bring hygge into your life.
Bring In Some Flowers: Flowers have a lovely way of making a home feel peaceful and cheery. Enhance spaces with fresh arrangements around your home – bathroom vanities, night stands & entry ways.
Open Your Windows: Winter can make us crazy after a while – feeling cooped up and claustrophobic for extended periods trying to keep warm. When we do have days the sun is shining and it’s not 6 million below, open those windows and bring the fresh air in for a bit.
Light Some Candles: There’s just something about the flicker of candlelight that is calming, no matter the season. Light a few candles and nestle on the couch with your family & a great movie. Don’t forget the popcorn!
Bake Something: Even though fall and winter are high baking seasons, we all appreciate baked treats. Delicious scents wafting through your home instantly adds warmth…& it’s rewarding. I’m a huge sucker for the smell of freshly baked bread. Has me reaching for the butter every time.
Take a walk: Now that Mother Nature has perhaps released her talons in the winter department a tad, head outside and embrace the outdoors. Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. We are blessed to live where we do – with daily opportunities to scout out a variety of wildlife and appreciate the birdsong. Never underestimate the simplicity of a walk.
