Do any of my readers also have issues with people dumping junk on or near their properties? I sincerely feel the need to bring this ongoing problem up for discussion. I apologize, but I do not understand some people’s mentality. How does one think it is acceptable to drive down a gravel road & unload? Brush and grass clippings are one thing. At least they decompose. But old tires, heaters, swing sets, hunting carcasses & butchered pigs? Yep, you read that right…slaughtered pigs…heads still intact. Carelessly thrown in the ditch. Mere meters from the foot of our driveway. Not only is this ILLEGAL, but it is also enticing predators to visit surrounding areas…my areas. I might as well wrap my children in bacon before sending them out to catch the school bus. I’ve thought about carrying something for protection, but I already look pretty questionable first thing in the morning. And I’m pretty sure the bus driver would be giving me an even weirder look. We have taken all of the suggested steps to attempt to fix this problem. Discussions with county offices and “Report a Poacher” lines have really gotten us no further ahead. We could have signage made, install cameras, at our own expense. But unless we “catch someone in the act, take pictures of license plates & report” there is really nothing that can be done. I would never dream of taking my garbage & depositing it anywhere, except where it belongs - at my local waste transfer site. As a somewhat responsible citizen I have no qualms paying the $2 per bag of garbage & putting recyclables in their place. In fact, I look forward to dump days – one just never knows what goodies the “Take It or Leave It” will possess. I suppose one of my DIY’s for the immediate future will be picking up the random items deposited around these parts & delivering them to their proper place.
