In a society strongly influenced by consumerism, overconsumption & the excessive production of short-lived items we have become almost comfortable with the throw-away mentality. Thankfully, with the ever growing popularity of the DIY movement more & more of us are willing to forego the mass produced for items that truly speak to our souls.
It is inside each of us to find things in our world to hang on to – repurpose, not replace. Taking items that are considered junk, garbage or obsolete & transforming them in new & creative ways gives us a sense of identity, empowerment & uniqueness. We all have the choice to start designing our spaces for the long run & feeling fabulous while creating them!
Thankfully, there are many businesses popping up to help us creatively convert our treasures & homes while making a positive environmental impact. Home Re-Use-Ables, ReStore & Architectural Clearinghouse to name a few. If you have not had the opportunity to check these places out, you need to asap. Furniture rehab workshops for those wanting to get their hands dirty is also a fun option. If you’re not as comfortable tackling the job yourself, Frizzled Feather is one of our favorites. Many times we have had clients wanting to incorporate a piece that no longer suits their current needs or décor & they have helped us in altering pieces of all proportions.
When I’m not meeting up with clients, you can usually track me down building custom pieces in the shop or “browsing” our local landfill for my next brilliant idea. I’ll be the one coated in sawdust & stain…...likely with a giant “you won’t believe what I just found” grin on my face.
Let’s slap on our Wonder Woman bracelets & get to work repurposing what we have & lightening the dumpsite load for future generations.
